At Tower Hamlets Primary schools, there is nothing more important to us than the physical and emotional health and well-being of our pupils. As such we have created and worked relentlessly to maintain a climate in which staff, pupils, parents and governors feel able to voice concerns comfortably; knowing that effective action will be taken. We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils. We engender the principle that safeguarding is 'everyone's responsibility'. All staff and volunteers should raise any concerns they have about poor or unsafe practice and potential failures in the school safeguarding regime.
We want Bangabandhu to be a community of happy, confident, motivated children who love learning. We want our children to be successful citizens who believe in and value themselves and each other.
We want our children to believe in and stand up for equality in all aspects of life. Therefore, we are continually striving to ensure that we nurture, challenge and enable each and every one to be the very best they can be in all areas of school life.
We are a Rights Respecting School where the rights of children are central to all that we do.
Our school motto is to 'Aim High, Take Part, Have Fun' and that is what we do everyday.
Bangabandhu opened in January 1989, moving into permanent premises in November 1991.
Our governors at the time chose the school name, which means ‘Friend of Bengal’. It is the honorary title given to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who helped found Bangladesh in 1971.
Bangabandhu is a Tower Hamlets Community Primary School for children aged three to eleven. As an inclusive school, our intake is diverse, reflecting the local community.
We are a very well-resourced school with extensive playground facilitates, a computer suite which accommodates classes of 30, a library, two halls and many group rooms which facilitates small group working. We are a fully accessible school with all classrooms on the ground floor with exits to the playgrounds. We also have an accessible lift.
We have fantastic playgrounds!
Organisation of Classes
There are two classes in each year group from Reception to Year Six; with a Nursery, providing 15 hour places and 30 hour places for those with a working parent code. We have a local authority resourced special educational needs provision for 15 children with Complex Needs.

The following section from the statement of application for Teaching School status summarises the TELTSA rationale:
An alliance of our schools is an opportunity to maintain and increase the recruitment of high quality teaching and support staff to support the needs of children and schools in Tower Hamlets.
We will fully exploit our unique context to provide experience across a wide range of settings within very close geographical proximity: with our strategic partners we will offer experiences from nursery to post 16, in both mixed and single sex institutions including a special school.
The alliance schools share a cross phase focus on literacy development beyond 1:1 interventions. Literacy is a national priority, but the specific needs in Tower Hamlets will remain in a society facing an increase in child poverty and deprivation. In this respect our broad experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs will be essential in supporting trainees’ experience of planning and delivering lessons to support an extensive range of need. Also the secondary schools offer a broad range of specialisms; performing and visual arts, languages, maths and business studies.
Since TELTSA was formed, a range of professional opportunities have been offered to support the further development of the excellent practice across our schools.
