Pupil Premium Funding

Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers. It was first introduced in April 2011.

Since then the amount schools receive has increased. Schools receive funding based on the number of pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years.

Key principles for using pupil premium at Bangabandhu:

  1. We are highly committed to raising achievement for pupils who are eligible for Pupil Premium and know these pupils make faster progress than non-eligible pupils and are determined to achieve this.
  2. We never confuse eligible pupils with low ability and strive to ‘bring out the best’ in this group of pupils and support them to achieve the highest levels.
  3. We create a package of support aimed to tackle the range of barriers including; attendance, behaviour, external factors, professional development focusing on improving outcomes for eligible pupils, improving the quality of teaching and learning, language acquisition, parental engagement, opportunities for first-hand experiences and development of literacy and numeracy skills.
  4. We use assessment systems to track and enable thorough analysis of data (Reading, Writing and Maths) to identify pupils who are under-achieving and why.
  5. We direct resources and interventions to accelerate progress of eligible pupils and close the attainment gap compared to their peers.
  6. We use data to carefully track the impact of targeted spending (interventions, projects or pedagogy) on attainment and progress of eligible pupils.
  7. The Senior Leadership Team have a clear overview of how funding is allocated and the difference it is making to the outcomes of pupils termly.
  8. We ensure class teachers and subject leaders know which pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium so they can take responsibility for accelerating progress and accountability is shared across the academy.
  9. Our Governing Body is ambitious for pupils and closely monitors the school’s effectiveness in closing the gap between different groups of pupils.

Sports Premium Funding

The Government provides additional funding for school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools.

This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. We are held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish online information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. Details of our PE curriculum are found on the ‘Physical Education’ page of this website.

Catch-up Premium Funding

Children and young people across the country have experienced unprecedented disruption to their education as a result of coronavirus (COVID-19). Those from the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds will be among those hardest hit.

The government has announced  funding to support children and young people to catch up. This includes a one-off universal £650 million catch-up premium for the 2020 to 2021 academic year to ensure that schools have the support they need to help all pupils make up for lost teaching time.

Our allocation has been calculated on a per pupil basis, providing us with a total of £80 for each pupil in years reception through to Year 6.  For the academic year 2020-2021  Bangabandhu will receive £ 7 060 in October 2020 and £9 413 in April 2021.
